Are adjacent, opposite, and hypotenuse segments in a triangle fixed?

When looking at a triangle, do the positions of these segments change in relation to each angle on the triangle? I am just now learning about sine, cosine, and tangents... It is really kicking my . And why are sin, cos, and tan important???
